The right care for period underwear – detergents & tips

Proper care is crucial to ensuring your period panties last a long time and remain absorbent. The secret? A detergent that doesn't clog the fibers and is gentle on your skin.

Here you will find out what you should pay attention to and which products are particularly suitable!

Which detergent is ideal for period underwear?

A good detergent for menstrual panties is free of fats and glycerin , as these can clog the pores of the absorbent layers. This can lead to your underwear absorbing less liquid. To avoid this, we recommend glycerin-free detergents.

Our recommendations:

  • Everdrop delicate detergent
  • Spee delicate detergent
  • Ecover
  • frog
  • Persil
  • Ariel
Which cleaning products should you avoid?
Not every detergent is suitable for period underwear. You should avoid these products:
Greasy soaps such as curd soap, soft soap or Savon de Marseille – they contain glycerin and can reduce the absorbency of your panties.
Vegetable oil-based detergents (e.g., with coconut, olive, or almond oil) – they leave residues that damage the fibers.
Fabric softeners & plasticizers – they leave a film on the fibers and can severely limit the absorption of your panties.
Soda crystals – they are too aggressive for the delicate fabrics of your menstrual underwear.

Step-by-step: How to wash your period panties properly

Immediately after wearing: Rinse your underwear with cold water until the water runs clear.
Machine wash or hand wash: Wash your panties at 30-40°C – either with your regular laundry or separately by hand with mild detergent.
Air dry! High temperatures can damage the absorbent layer. Avoid using dryers and irons to extend the lifespan of your panties.
Good to know:
  • Modern detergents are effective even at 30°C – no need for higher temperatures!
  • The absorbent layer in period underwear is sensitive to heat – so never wash it above 40°C.
  • Avoid fabric softeners and bleach to avoid damaging the material.
  • If your period underwear isn't as absorbent as it was when you first started, you may still be able to save it! Learn more here .

!Caution! Do not place your period underwear on a radiator to dry. The heat is too intense and could damage the absorbent layer.

Kann man die Hosen auch mit einem Hygiene Spüler(zum Beispiel von der Marke: Denk mit) waschen oder beschädigt das?
